Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Greenwich

Are you a senior Power Electronics / High-Voltage Systems Engineer ready to take ownership of complex, mission-critical architectures? Join a leading global subsea telecoms company designing and delivering subsea cable infrastructure that underpins international communications networks.

In this role, you’ll lead the system architecture and technical definition of next-generation Power Feeding Equipment (PFE) - high-voltage DC power systems that operate reliably for decades in some of the world’s most demanding environments. You’ll translate product requirements into robust system designs, define performance budgets, and ensure all functional blocks integrate seamlessly across the full product lifecycle.

What you’ll do
  • Define and own the PFE system architecture, covering high-voltage power conversion, power distribution, redundancy, and fault tolerance.
  • Develop and deliver System Technical Functional Specifications (TFS), ensuring full traceability from product features through to subsystem and unit-level requirements.
  • Partition top-level PFE requirements into clear performance budgets across functional blocks (power, efficiency, reliability, thermal, safety).
  • Lead system-level trade studies, assessing the impact of architectural decisions on reliability, availability, cost, size, manufacturability, and maintainability.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, software, firmware, and mechanical teams to resolve design conflicts and drive integrated system solutions.
  • Guide system integration, verification, and validation activities, ensuring requirements are clear, testable, and verifiable.
  • Perform and support system-level FMEA, FTA, RCA, and risk analysis to deliver highly reliable designs.
  • Provide technical leadership through design reviews, supporting prototype development, testing, and post-production investigations.
  • Influence technology choices and R&D direction to support future PFE platforms.
What we’re looking for
  • Strong background in power electronics and high-voltage system design, ideally within industrial, aerospace, defence, or telecoms environments.
  • Proven experience defining system architectures, developing technical specifications, and working across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of DC-DC power converters, power distribution, redundancy concepts, and fault‑tolerant design.
  • Experience with performance budgeting, system reliability, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Confident communicator, able to explain complex technical decisions and influence stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting system testing, validation, and troubleshooting is highly valued.
Why this role?
  • Architect next-generation subsea power systems that operate at up to 21 kV and underpin global communications.
  • Work at true system level, shaping architecture and influencing long-term product strategy.
  • Hybrid working: 3 days per week onsite.
  • Join a highly experienced engineering environment with existing platforms to build upon - not start from scratch.
