Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable and experienced HGV Driver / Team Leader to join our Waste Collection Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating an HGV vehicle while leading a team of Waste Operatives in the collection of household and commercial waste across the borough.

You will play a key role in ensuring waste and recycling collections are completed efficiently, safely, andin accordance with service standards. The role typically involves supervising two Waste Loaders , althoughadditionalteam members may be assigned when required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate HGV collection vehicles in accordance with road traffic legislation and company procedures.
• Lead and supervise a team of Waste Operatives during daily collection rounds.
• Collect household and commercial waste, recyclables, organic waste, and bulky/special waste from various locations including:

Shops and commercial premises

Schools

Other designated collection points

• Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections and report any defects promptly.
• Ensure all collections are completed efficiently and on schedule.
• Maintain high standards of customer service and professionalism when interacting with residents and businesses.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, safe working practices, and environmental standards.
• Monitor team performance and provide guidance to Waste Operatives where required .
• Complete relevant paperwork, reports, and vehicle documentation accurately.
• Report incidents, accidents, missed collections, and operational issues to management.
• Ensure waste is collected, transported, and disposed of in accordance with applicable legislation and council procedures.

• Valid HGV driving licence appropriate for the vehicle being operated.
• Clean driving licence with no significant endorsements.
• Must have held a valid HGV licence for a minimum of 1 year .
• Must be readily available to work AM shift patterns.
• Previous experience driving HGV vehicles in a waste collection, logistics, or similar operational environment.
• Ability to lead and motivate a small team.
• Good knowledge of road safety regulations and safe vehicle operation.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit and able to support operational activities where required.
• Willingness to adhere to and sign the Driver's Handbook upon appointment.
