ACCOUNTING FINANCE - TAX CORPORATE ACCOUNTANT

National Storage Affiliates Trust (NSA) is a real‑estate investment trust headquartered in Greenwood Village, CO, focused on owning, operating and acquiring self‑storage properties primarily in the top 100 metropolitan statistical areas across the United States. As of September 30 2025, NSA owned and operated 1,069 properties in 37 states and Puerto Rico, encompassing approximately 69.8 million rentable square feet. NSA is one of the largest owners and operators of self‑storage properties among public and private companies in the U.S.

Purpose

As a member of the company’s tax team, the Corporate Tax Accountant records and documents income and deferred tax journal entries, assists with filing the company’s tax returns, and ensures tax compliance for all legal entities and operating partnerships. The role requires strong communication skills, problem‑solving attitude, extensive tax technical knowledge, and the ability to interact with all levels of management.

Duties

And Responsibilities
  • Record and document income tax and deferred tax monthly journal entries timely and accurately, in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Support the corporate accounting department by preparing monthly reconciliation of tax balance sheet accounts under VP, Tax supervision.
  • Contact federal, state, and local taxing authorities to resolve tax notices and issues.
  • Review and prepare tax payment vouchers and tax return mailings.
  • Prepare tax returns for partnership entities for review by VP, Tax.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date taxable income estimates and projections under VP, Tax review.
  • Prepare quarterly REIT tests and help maintain REIT compliance under VP, Tax supervision.
  • Review tax basis and attributes of fixed assets, including 721 contributions and 1031 exchanges.
  • Assist with state, local, or federal tax examinations and audits.
  • Interface with limited partners during the K‑1 distribution and composite filing process.
  • Provide indirect tax support for real and personal property taxes.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Tax or Accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant certification or eligibility (plus).
  • 1–3 years of tax or accounting experience at a CPA firm or another company.
  • Proficiency with Excel functions.
  • Experience with tax preparation software (plus).
  • Experience with a public company (plus).
  • Experience in partnership tax accounting and real‑estate accounting (plus).

  • Capable of managing multiple projects in partnership with individuals at all levels within and outside the organization.

Compensation Range

$70,000 – $85,000, dependent on experience.
