All about General Merchandise

Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store
• Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
• Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

As a General Merchandise Expert, a typical day will include the following responsibilities:

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks
• Engage with guests to help solve their specific needs
• Thank guests and acknowledge their choice to shop at Target
• Execute daily tasks to achieve business goals, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas
• If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures
• Execute processes such as changing prices, merchandise setup, maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed
• Understand how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability
• Be knowledgeable about store resources, products, and services to solve guest issues and improve their experience
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety and compliance
• Work safely; follow safety policies, report hazards and correct when possible
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking/packing orders or delivering pickup orders) while complying with applicable laws
• All other duties based on business needs

• Ability to resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
• Attention to detail and following multi-step processes
• Ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established time frames

Additional basics we expect:

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders
• Scan, handle and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds
• Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) and reliable attendance
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and other elements while performing duties
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a shift
