Reports To: Director of Shelter Services

Meg’s House is a 501(c)(3) organization, located in Greenwood, SC that responds to the emotional and physical needs of those experiencing domestic violence and homelessness by providing services based on a trauma reduction model.

Summary: This position works on various shifts because the shelter operates 24 hours, 7 days a week, that includes overnight, weekend, and holidays. In addition, you will maintain emergency coverage when necessary. The employee is responsible for providing direct services to survivors of domestic abuse and their children in the shelter to ensure their day‑to‑day needs are met. This includes supporting the shelter team in creating a welcoming environment and ensuring trauma‑informed practices are followed.

This is a part‑time, hourly, non‑exempt position.

Job Responsibilities:

Receives and processes intake calls from survivors and accepts clients into shelter.

Facilitates new clients through intake procedures, explains procedures of the household, prepares necessary documentation and photographs for client records.

Ensures that the basic needs (food, clothing, medical assistance, etc.) of all clients in the shelter are met.

Maintains the client documentation for all incidents relating to clients by accurately entering data in a timely and efficient manner.

Assists in maintaining a clean shelter and performs other household contributions as needed.

Maintains annual victim service provider hours and attends training.

Provides coverage for shelter.

Performs other or similar agency duties as assigned by supervisor and/or other agency management personnel.

Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while applying established policies and procedures.

Demonstrate effective time management skills by prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

Consistently exemplifies agency and team protocols, maintains professional boundaries, utilizes trauma‑informed approaches, and practices compassionate accountability when interacting with both staff and clients.

Displays the maturity and flexibility that is necessary in a crisis‑oriented environment.

Demonstrates interpersonal skills by effectively communicating, actively listening, and providing de‑escalation and emotional regulation while maintaining healthy boundaries.

Demonstrates compassion and empathy while supporting clients experiencing a range of challenges, such as triggers, trauma symptoms, and various emotional, mental, or physical health concerns. This includes, but is not limited to, active addiction, suicidal ideation, and mental health conditions.

Demonstrates a proactive attitude, drive for self‑improvement, ability to problem‑solve effectively and willing to assist team‑members when needed.

Works with teammates and clients, to ensure the household is a family‑friendly, clean, peaceful and healing environment.

Attend meetings as required.

Enthusiastically supports and models the mission and vision of Meg’s House to peers, clients, and the community.

Performs other or similar agency duties as assigned by supervisor and/or other agency management personnel.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Must pass criminal background check
Working Conditions:
  • Work with individuals experiencing domestic violence
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Move/transport boxes or other items for clients – 15 lbs. or more
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs
