Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Incident Response, Education, and Compliance, the Education Specialist plays an important role in advancing the University's efforts to prevent and respond to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct through effective, accessible, and responsive education. The Education Specialist reinforces a culture of integrity, accountability, and care and supports the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX's mission to create an environment where all people are treated with dignity and respect and have an equal opportunity to learn and work at a university free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.

The Education Specialist develops, implements, manages, and evaluates educational programs and resources for the University community. This includes institution-wide required education as well as targeted educational programming designed to address the needs of particular populations, units, or areas of the University. Working in collaboration with the Director, Office staff, and campus partners, the Education Specialist identifies and responds proactively and reactively to emerging educational needs and trends across the University community.

The Education Specialist must be able to respond proactively and reactively to the evolving needs of the University community and develop appropriate educational responses consistent with applicable law, University policy and procedures, and Office priorities. The position requires flexibility in the delivery of educational programming across the University community, including in-person, virtual, online, and other appropriate formats, and may require presentations or educational programming during evenings and weekends.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to translate complex laws, policies, procedures, and concepts into accurate, accessible, and engaging educational content.
  • Ability to interact and build effective working relationships with individuals of various identities and backgrounds.
  • Ability to collaborate with subject-matter experts and University partners to identify educational needs, establish learning objectives, and develop appropriate educational responses.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in determining appropriate educational approaches based on audience, subject matter, identified needs, and Office priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with limited direction.
  • Ability to manage multiple educational programs and projects in an environment with changing priorities, emerging needs, and competing demands.
  • Ability to develop effective learning materials and educational resources using appropriate instructional methods and technologies.
  • Ability and willingness to provide educational programming during evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Strong written, oral, presentation, facilitation, interpersonal, organizational, and project-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in instructional design, education, law, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, or other civil rights and regulations.
  • Experience developing and delivering education or training for varied audiences and through multiple delivery methods.
  • Experience developing educational programming related to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, civil rights, compliance, or related subject matter.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
