Activity Therapist

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is currently looking for a Certified Recreation, Art, Dance, or Music Therapist to join our team of dedicated professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic recreational, music and activity services to geriatric, adult and adolescent patients.
  • Assess patients' level of functioning and need for adjunctive therapy services.
  • Develop and implement activity therapy treatment plans in concert with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Maintain the clinical and administrative documentation associated with services rendered.
  • Participate in the ongoing implementation of the department's or service's continuous quality improvement plan.

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is a 156-bed private behavioral health system located on 13 acres in the Greenville, South Carolina Area. Specializing in psychiatric programs and substance abuse treatments such as detox and rehab, the Center serves Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and surrounding areas throughout South Carolina and western North Carolina. Programs are available at various levels of care to accommodate the severity of every patient’s condition: inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment.

Job Duties

Develop and provide therapeutic activity groups to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients while ensuring their safety and maintaining a therapeutic milieu.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide therapeutic recreational, music and activity services to geriatric, adult and adolescent patients.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Art, Music or Dance Therapy required.

Experience

Zero‑one (0‑1) year of experience required; two (2) years of related experience preferred. Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness preferred.

Additional Requirements
  • Certification in Recreation, Music, Art, or Dance Therapy required.
  • Successful completion of Management Aggressive Behavior Training (HWC) before unit orientation and prior to assisting with restraining procedures.
  • Certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association for CPR prior to taking an independent patient assignment.
Work Hours

Tuesday‑Saturday or Sunday‑Thursday; start times vary.

Telephone, shower/bath, audio‑visual equipment, EKG machine, thermometer, refrigerator, radio, blood pressure cuff, vitals machine, housekeeping supplies, copy machine, physical restraints, first aid items, and shredder.
