Job Purpose And SummaryWe help people navigate the health care system by improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner. Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians are often the first point of contact, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately. They apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication to support smooth operations and exceptional patient experiences.
Responsibilities- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Provide empathetic, genuine care to patients, creating heartfelt moments and offering immunizations and other services at the register or over the phone.
- Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law, such as putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
- Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed.
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles. Comply with CVS policies for patient safety, controlled substance dispensing, record‑keeping, and privacy protection.
- Deliver additional patient health care services such as immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and off‑site clinic staffing where allowable by law and supported by required training.
- Obtain additional licensure and training per state Board of Pharmacy regulations to achieve Technician Immunizer status.
- Educate patients on vaccine importance and refer questions to the on‑duty pharmacist.
- Monitor and respond to adverse reactions, reporting events per public health requirements.
- Collect, review, and document patient information for each applicable patient.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
- Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- Be at least 16 years of age if state law does not mandate a higher minimum age.
- Have a high school diploma, equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school if no educational requirement is mandated.
- State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Show attention and focus by concentrating, pivoting quickly, and ensuring prescription accuracy.
- Exhibit customer service and team orientation by looking for helpful ways, responding appropriately, and communicating effectively.
- Use mathematical reasoning to solve prescription calculations.
- Resolve problems by identifying challenging interactions and selecting the best response.
- Meet physical demands such as mobility, lifting, reaching, and repetitive finger work.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisor or manager.
- 1-3 years of previous Pharmacy Technician experience.
- Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs.
