Community Canine Procurement Assistant
St. George’s University invites applicants for the position of Community Canine Procurement Assistant within the Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Department within the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Job Description ObjectiveThe objective of the position is to coordinate activities regarding sourcing of dogs in the Grenadian community by advertising and promoting the SGU/JSAL program and collection of data regarding possible surgical candidates for JSAL. The employee will also obtain the appropriate paperwork consenting surgical procedures, assist with technical aspects of the role and communicate with owners of surgical patients regarding surgery progress updates and follow‑up treatments.
EssentialFunctions
- Publicize and organize with pet owners, dates for pickup of their animals for Spay or Neuter surgery. This includes visiting schools, churches, local shops and popular areas to explain the Spay/Neuter Program, which is coordinated with SGUSVM.
- Act as direct liaison between the pet owner, SGUSVM's Junior Surgery and Anesthesia Lab ("JSAL") and Small Animal Clinic ("SAC") Surgery/Anesthesia rotations.
- The CCP Coordinator is required to be on call 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week for the duration of the scheduled neutering clinics. In the event that the CCP Coordinator is not available, the CCP Assistant shall fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the CCP Coordinator.
- Assist the CCP Coordinator in the recruiting, organization and maintenance of contacts within the Grenadian community.
- Assist contacting owners and obtain signed written consent for the use of their pets in the SGUSVM's JSAL and SAC.
- Assist with the provision of the JSAL and SAC with the requested number of animals deemed suitable as teaching patients for students.
- Assist with the organization of events like vaccinations (i.e. Rabies or OHOM) and/or other related activities within Grenada.
- Follow and maintain the guidelines and procedures of SGUSVM for the handling and treatment of animals and the use of university facilities and equipment as stated in the Standard Operating Procedures manual for the Veterinary Surgery Lab (VSL).
- With the assistance of a vehicle and driver, designated by SGU, the CCPA will ensure that transportation of patients is safe and humane.
- Arrange for pick‑up of dogs from their home and transportation to SVM Veterinary Surgery Lab (VSL) Kennel Room, or to the Small Animal Clinic (SAC) if there is an emergency.
- Check and ensure that paperwork is accompanied with every patient, making sure identification collars are placed on all patients.
- Assist returning surgery patients back home after discharge orders are completed. That includes returning rejected dogs from surgery and TVT patients, on assigned days, with their medication.
- Assist explaining and informing owners about patient discharge medications.
- Assist with transportation of canine patients on Speuter Days (Canine and Feline).
- Assist SNP (Spay/Neuter Pothounds) student’s group with walking, watering and feeding on Sunday afternoons.
- Maintain good communication with the VSL team (technicians and clinicians) at all times so that everyone is aware of the patient’s status.
- The CCPA will utilize SGU's vehicles only with the express permission of SGU and only in conjunction with an approved driver for activities directly related to this agreement. No unapproved use or passengers will be allowed regarding any SGU vehicle. When not in use for activities directly related to this agreement, all SGU vehicles will remain on the grounds and under the control of SGU.
Under no circumstances are SGU vehicles, or their keys, thereto are to remain in the possession of any designated driver or the CCPA when not in use for activities directly related to this agreement. - In addition, the CCPA will complete any other job‑related assignments that may be given by the CCP Coordinator and/or the VSL Director.
- The CCPA and any designated drivers will wear their respective identification badges at all times in the field and on the SGU campus.…
