Compensation- Annual Salary Range $35,257 - $59,927 (195/196 Day Contract). Initial placement on the salary schedule is based on education and contracted licensed experience.
- Eligible for a specialty stipend of $1,639 for the School Year.
- Eligible for a specialty stipend of $1,145 if certified Multilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian or Russian. Must pass a standardized proficiency test.
Facilitate Special Education student success in the least restrictive environment in the areas of academics, interpersonal/social skills, self‑management, and activities of daily living. Implement district–approved curriculum; document teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; address specific needs of students; provide a safe and optimal learning environment and give feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and to ensure access to general education curriculum and non‑disabled peers to the greatest extent possible.
EssentialJob Functions
- Instruct students with individualized special needs for the purpose of developing appropriate academic, interpersonal, self‑management, and daily living skills (e.g., toileting/hygiene) through a defined course of study.
- Manage classroom and individual student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g., Individualized Education Plans, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, progress reports, etc.) to implement lesson plans and document teacher and student progress.
- Assess students for eligibility into special education.
- Assess students’ social and academic needs for evaluating student learning and support requirements, placement, and success of the special education program.
- Collaborate with school personnel and community agencies to develop and modify the program, maximize quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
- Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides to provide an effective special education program and address individual student needs.
- Adapt lessons to implement IEP goals and meet students’ special needs.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to support teacher expectations, develop improvement methods, and reinforce classroom goals in the home.
- Facilitate special education meetings for assigned students with or suspected of having disabilities.
- Ensure required timelines, processes, procedures, documentation, and student record requirements are followed per district policy and state law.
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to Education Code, district, and/or school policies.
- Ensure compliance with student confidentiality in verbal, written, electronic, and filing/organizational strategies.
- Administer medication, first aid, and/or health‑care requirements as needed to provide specialized treatment and/or monitor medical conditions of students.
- Assist other personnel in completing their work activities.
- Participate in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in‑service training, site meetings, etc.) to receive and/or provide information and/or meet credential requirements.
Job Requirements – Qualifications
- Knowledge of current federal and state laws pertaining to the provision of special education.
- Skill to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance, and address student health‑care needs.
