- The supplier resident will assume responsibility for the electrical development and release of the Product(s) to be supplied.
- Where multiple programs are under contract, a resident engineer may be assigned to more than one program.
- Become proficient in the following GM Process/databases/tools:
- E-Squared – Engineering Work Order and Part Ordering system
- PRTS, ESIMS – Problem/Issue Tracking systems
- APM – Part Drawing system
- Embassy – Pre-Production Vehicle Build Tracking system
- Team Center – Specification / Document repository database
- GM-LAN database and tools
- GART – Warranty tracking system
- Support for IVER/PPV/Man-Val/Production builds.
Support the following Electrical activities:
- Schedule and coordinate Design Reviews and/or Peer Reviews
- Coordinate and manage Product Development Team (PDT) meetings.
- Prepare project plans, track vehicle timing requirements and part availability dates
- Order and track part deliveries
- Have access to supplier electrical circuit schematics and subcomponent specifications
- Responsible with the failure mode and effects analysis process
- Determine and investigate design and mechanization alternatives
- Perform electrical packaging and bracket design studies
- Participate in Module packaging in vehicle.
- Assist with the updating of system requirements
- Resolve issues on assigned CTS or SSTS sections
- Perform design analysis and trade-off studies
- Initiate system requirement change requests
- Recommend additional testing and development as required
- Provide technical direction to relevant Engineering and Support Groups
- Write Engineering Work Orders (EWOs) for release and change of hardware, software, calibrations, brackets and associated fasteners
- Responsible for Change Approval Board (CAB) activities for Engineering Work Order (EWO) approval
- Perform / Support bench and vehicle software checkout
- Support vehicle build activities and perform subsystem debug
- Maintain a supplier supplied break out / hardware test box with capability to fully test / evaluate the module at the resident desk or site.
- Assist with root cause, resolution and verification of system issues and test incidents
- Prepare and present issues and resolutions to GM Engineering Management and Vehicle Team(s)
- Support Vehicle Assembly Center launch of product – including preproduction launch activities
- Support vehicle development activities, rides and sub-system buy-off events
- Perform hardware, software and/or calibration updates to preproduction vehicles and benches
- Perform monthly warranty tracking of part performance in field
- Coordinate communication meetings between Buyer and Supplier
- Represent Buyer's position when communicating with Supplier
- Stay abreast of new technologies and Buyer's competition
- Maintain an awareness of programs and vehicle systems
- Upon request, the appropriate Supplier personnel shall provide support during controller and vehicle calibration development trips.
- Support at the manufacturing facility for the Manufacturing Non Saleable, Manufacturing Saleable, and Start of Production builds
- Perform / Submit / Maintain the following:
- Math Data
- Electrical Mechanization Drawings
- Electrical Interface Control Document template or Sharepoint site, whichever applies to program
- DFMEA / DRBFM for all post-IVER change
- Assembly Plant training documents
- EWOs for product / process changes
- Engineering Change log
- Assist / Review / Approve the following:
- Service Manual
- Service Bulletin
- Owner's Manual
- The Supplier Resident shall be on GM campus 90 percent of the work week unless there is written consent by the GM Electrical Lead Engineer
- Qualifications Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
- Ability to read circuit schematics and proficient in circuit operation
- Proficient in supplied subsystem sensing and control operation
- Familiar with Supplier manufacturing and processing of component / subsystem
- Minimum 2 years experience in design or development with Supplier on supplied component / subsystem
- Experience with GM vehicles, vehicle electrical/electronic subsystem packaging, and sub-system designs
- Good written and oral communication skills - must be able to clearly and concisely communicate technical information
- Good interpersonal skills - must work well on a team
- Good organizational skills - must be able to manage several projects efficiently
- Ability and ambition to work under pressure, meet schedules and maintain a high level of output
- Proficiency in the use of Personal Computers (PC's) and Microsoft Office tools.
