Position Details: Range 10 (Health Assistant) — 1.5 hours/day, 187 days/year;
Salary Range 10 $ 22.29 to $30.54/hour. Range 9 (Educational Assistant) — 2.5 hours/day, 187 days/year;
Salary Range 9 $ 21.64 to $29.65/hour.
The School Health Assistant assists school personnel with specific student health issues and performs clerical duties for the Health Room. This position handles sensitive and confidential issues, requiring excellent communication skills.

Prior job-related experience with increasing responsibility - Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent - Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing
Required:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint - Clearance;
Current First Aid/CPR Certificates
Knowledge Of:
- Rules and regulations related to assigned school
- Statistical record keeping
- Customer service principles, protocols, and methods
Skill In:
- Operating medical equipment such as digital thermometers, nebulizers, glucometers, insulin pens/syringes, scales, inhalers, AEDs, and auto-injectors
- Operating standard office equipment and computer programs (e.g. email, system applications, word processing, database, spreadsheet)
- Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing (correct spelling, grammar and punctuation)
- Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions
- Functioning as a self-starter, able to work independently or in a team
- Planning, prioritizing and completing assignments with minimum supervision
- Handling multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously
- Developing effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
- Administering first aid
- Interacting with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds
- Provides basic first aid and emergency care for illness or injury and refer emergency situations to district nurse, administration, parents, appropriate emergency medical personnel and appropriate support personnel
- Monitor student health status during periods of short-term rest or recovery in the health room
- Collects and maintains data and records on student health issues as required by the district, state, and federal regulations
- Provides delegated health care tasks for students with chronic health problems
- Administers medication to students following District and school protocols under the direction and training of the school nurse where appropriate
- Keeps accurate records of medication brought to the health room
- Notify nurse and/or parents of medication-related updates or changes
- Assists other school personnel with health screenings
- Prepare medications, supplies, and precautions, consult/communicate with teacher and assess need for staff training for field trips
- Monitor students in a variety of settings for the purpose of providing care as defined by student health plans
- Maintains and updates student health records
- Maintains appropriate student records for student health histories
- Collects immunization and tuberculosis data
- Composes reports and documents for administrators and other school staff regarding student health issues
- Manages health-related referrals from other school staff members
- Processes documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties
- Orders necessary supplies for the health room and other materials as requested
- Communicate effectively with parents related to student health issues
- Assist with physically transferring students from wheelchairs, mats, or other positioning equipment
- Cross-trains in a variety of office functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work
- Assist in general office duties to include answering phones, directing calls, providing proper information, taking messages, preparing and distributing forms and correspondence and ordering supplies
- Performs selected tasks from School Health Management Plan as delegated and supervised by the Registered Nurse
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
- Ability to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
- Talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment
- Use precise control of fingers and hand movement

- Use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
