Operations Manager
The Assistant Manager of Bus & Rail Stores is responsible for supervising material management activities at multiple locations and across various shift times. These activities include receiving, storage, inventory tracking, issuing, and security. The role ensures that all operations maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, inventory accuracy, reliability, and efficiency. The Assistant Manager also coordinates training, evaluates work performance, and assesses staffing needs for all functions within their area of responsibility.
This position requires being onsite five (5) days per week.

This person will serve as a good steward of Tri Met by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of Tri Met’s product and service offerings.
Responsibilities- Monitor Storeroom activities to maintain compliance with program goals and ensure that production standards, approved policies and procedures are met. Ensure a high level of commitment to safety through effective modeling and enforcement. Prepare and provide routine and special reports on storeroom activity to management.
- Allocate labor and supplies to ensure timely completion of all storeroom activities and projects within established budget guidelines without service interruption. Prepare and implement work schedules, programs and procedures. Ensure routine replenishment activities are consistently reviewed and actioned.
- Collaborate with maintenance departments for fluctuations in material demand and communicate changes with purchasing department. Ensure revenue equipment awaiting needed material demands are promptly resolved to return the vehicle to service. Review parts stocking requests and control part number creation. Create and maintain point-of-use inventory locations and parts kitting to support routine maintenance and internal remanufacturing activities.
- Support, train and administer Storekeepers at multiple locations, working all shifts, in all aspects of operations, including workplace safety, supporting business decision making, enforcing workplace policies and procedures, and attendance and leave issues. Perform workplace investigations, administer progressive discipline, hear Working and Wage Agreement grievance hearings, and author required responses. Provide initial training to Stores Trainees, including use of Tri Met’s financial systems (Oracle EBS).
Foster employee creativity by engaging and empowering employees to improve processes, where applicable. - Collaborate with team members, key internal customers and process partners to resolve issues, improve process inefficiencies, and execute departmental goals.
- Supervise cycle count activities to ensure program objectives are achieved. Conduct reconciliations to ensure proper cost accounting is maintained when reviewing discrepancies. Make process improvements as necessary to improve inventory control.
- Model cultural competency and work effectively with culturally diverse individuals, coworkers, the elderly, persons with disabilities or other vulnerable populations.
Four (4) years of total credited experience.
Four (4) years of materials management experience in transportation, military, public utility or fleet management industry are required.
One (1) year of lead experience is required.
Possession of current/valid Class C license issued by Oregon or Washington; ability to pass a driving record check meeting Tri Met driving record standards.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the credited experience.
