LocationThis vacancy is located in the New Orleans Region in the West Jefferson Parish Child Welfare Office in Gretna, LA.
Position OverviewThis position provides clerical, programmatic, and administrative support functions for staff and clients of the Child Welfare office.

- Greet visitors in a cordial manner, when in person and on the telephone.
- Maintain office procedure.
- Handle all incoming calls calmly and professionally, and route calls accordingly.
- Keep informed of staff availability continuously to route incoming calls.
- Make copies as requested.
- Maintain file room of closed case records.
- Set up all valid Child Protective Services, Family Services, and Foster Care case records.
- Perform other duties as assigned for the smooth operation of the Department.
Appointment Type:
This position may be filled as a probationary appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probationary appointments. It may also be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months or by promotion of a permanent classified employee.
This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as an Administrative Coordinator 1 or 2. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.
SalaryThe actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
Work ScheduleTypical work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and are dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.
Background ChecksIn accordance with La. R.S. 46:51.2 the department shall conduct a State Central Registry (SCR) check for a potential employee of the department to determine whether or not said individual's name appears on a SCR subsequent to December 31, 2009, and whose duties include investigations of child abuse or neglect, supervisory or disciplinary authority over children, direct care to a child, or performance of licensing surveys.
In accordance with state laws, selected candidates must pass the following checks before any final job offer will be made:
Drug Test, Criminal Background, State Central Registry, and Louisiana State Police Sex Offender and Child Predator Registry.
