examination is announced to supplement the existing employment list to fill eight (8) vacancies in the parks and recreation department (east jefferson) and three (3) vacancies in the parks and recreation department (west jefferson). All positions in this classification are part-time and/or on-call only. This employment list may be used for future east and west jefferson vacancies as they occur.
responsibilities- under the direction of a recreation center supervisor or recreation zone manager, supervise and direct all playground activities at a recreation center during the assigned shift.
- in the absence of the center supervisor or zone manager, supervise and manage the overall operations of a recreation center and surrounding grounds.
- inspect the facility to ensure it is fully functional for programs/bookings, including setting up chairs and tables, bleachers, barricades, temporary fencing, storage, dugouts, fields and gyms.
- perform duties in preparing areas of the center for scheduled activities, which may include cleaning restrooms, field maintenance/marking, and other maintenance tasks.
- handle complaints and provide information or solutions when available.
- position requires driving a personal vehicle; possess a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and a personal automobile with minimum liability insurance for business use (business travel reimbursed on a mileage basis). Preference will be given to applicants meeting these requirements.
- meets one of the following options:
- i. Completion of high school (or equivalency certificate) plus at least six (6) months of experience (part-time or full-time) assisting with coaching/coordinating athletic playground activities or with facility operations related to athletic playground activities.
- ii. At least one (1) year of experience (part-time or full-time) as described in option i.
- iii. At least six (6) credit hours of college coursework in (or related to) recreation or physical education from an accredited school.
note: any conviction listed in the louisiana child protection act (louisiana r.s. 15:587.1) is disqualifying unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.
entrance and promotional exam information: written exam — 100%
the examination will be an assembled, multiple-choice test used to evaluate knowledge in four job-related areas: recreation center athletics, recreation programming, public relations, and basic supervision. Scores on this exam will be weighted 100%. Acceptable applicants will be notified by mail of the time, date, and place of the exam.
