Job SummaryMust be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
CoreResponsibilities And Essential Functions
- Verify proper clinician order for procedure and obtain complete clinical history.
- Gather examination data and assess for contraindicating conditions.
- Follow established procedures for the administration of contrast media.
- Ensure proper patient identification and use of markers.
- Review CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and release patients.
- Respond to emergency situations, restock crash cart and maintain life‑support equipment.
- Assist other technologists in all modalities when needed.
- Observe patient condition and evaluate situations for physician intervention.
- Verify correct patient identity using two unique identifiers before performing a procedure.
- Ensure patient privacy, comfort and dignity throughout the exam.
- Demonstrate competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures based on patient age.
- Organize schedule, time and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated times.
- Follow physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
- Demonstrate proficiency with loading and operating power injection.
- Use critical thinking skills and communicate with patients/families.
- Understand and document pre‑procedural verification and “time‑out” process when appropriate.
- Pre‑prepare patients for the procedure and maintain sterile technique.
- Maintain competency with venipuncture.
- Adjust technique to give patients the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider.
- Clean, disinfect and maintain equipment in accordance with infection control policy.
- Explain purpose and nature of the exam to patients using AIDET.
- Address patient questions, concerns or contraindications and notify physician when necessary.
- Participate in orientation and training of departmental employees.
- Provide patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
- Ensure required documentation is concise, legible and uses precise terminology.
- Read scheduled emails each day and follow through with assignments.
- Complete mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.
- Consistently produce acceptable images, as evidenced by radiologist feedback and quality audits.
- Verify equipment operational status before use, checking for calibration and deficiencies.
- Send all studies to PACS immediately after completion and print CDs as needed.
- Restock linens and supplies, maintain department cleanliness.
- Transport, position patients and assist them on and off the procedure table.
- Perform patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
- Apply shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
- Assist colleagues as needed, using time efficiently for departmental advantage.
- Perform routine clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and quality of services.
- Maintain an individual productivity rate equal to other co‑workers.
- Operate all workstations associated with the CT department.
- Push/retrieve images from the CT console to PACS.
- Maintain Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
