Job Summary

The Electroneuro diagnostic Technologist I is responsible for performing electroencephalograms (EEGs) and/or evoked potentials (EPs) studies in the laboratory and at the bedside of patients. The role also includes video/EEG monitoring, routine topographic brain mapping studies, ambulatory monitoring, and video long‑term monitoring (LTM). The technologist is qualified to provide a descriptive analysis of the waveforms and patterns relevant to their credential but is not responsible for interpretation or clinical correlation of the data.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Sets up and performs test procedures with minimal supervision.

• Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting, artifact identification, and elimination.

• Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit.

• Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and equipment settings and their effects.

• Uses photic stimulation and hyperventilation appropriately.

• Repairs or replaces bad electrodes and cleans up the patient after the EEG.

• Follows protocols for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files.

• Recognizes clinically significant events and intervenes if appropriate.

• Maintains patient safety through communication with other patient‑care staff during the EEG.

• Contacts higher‑level staff and the biomedical department regarding equipment problems and maintenance issues.

• Communicates with physicians regarding the EEG study results.

• Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures.

• Performs other related duties consistent with patient and technical care for this level.

Required

Minimum Education

High‑school graduate and graduate of an approved electroneurodiagnostic technology program or equivalent EEG experience up to 5 years.

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

• BLS – Basic Life Support
• BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor

Required Minimum Experience

Less than 1 year clinical experience in an electroneurodiagnostic lab setting.

Required Minimum Skills

Well‑developed PC and Microsoft Windows knowledge (keyboard skills), customer service, ability to function without much supervision, strong communication skills.
