Position Description
The Welding Technician is responsible for safely performing all tasks associated with this position, with minimal supervision. The Welding Technician is a crucial position, supporting the welding/fabricating processes and training throughout the business. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, above average welding and fabrication knowledge, complete tasks on time with high quality and with attention to detail.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesBelow are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:
- Conduct training classes on FMP welding standards and procedures
- Asses associates understanding and practical capabilities for welding applications specific to FMP
- Conduct weld audits of FMP welding operations for compliance with established standards
- Work with design and process engineering to add value and improvements to welding operations
- Assist with standardization of weld equipment and supplies throughout FMP
- Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen
- Basic reading, writing, & verbal skills
- Minimum 5 years of welding in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent attendance history
- Ability, and willingness to work flexible hours and shifts
- Above average welding ability and knowledge (Steel, Alum., Stainless Steel and basic Metalurgy)
- Above average ability, and desire, to train WN Associates in the field of welding and fabrication
- Above average skills in the following categories:
- Interpersonal and departmental relations
- Integrity, discretion, & diplomacy
- Ingenuity and creativity
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, with little or no supervision required
- Decision making capabilities
- Ability to determine necessary and correct actions, based on analysis of facts
- Able to exercise sound judgment
- Communication- speech, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Working knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SAP)
- Ability to read and interpret data and engineering drawings (measurements and weld symbols)
- Above average math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, and decimals)
- Ability to demonstrate proficient use of measuring devices
- Strong attention to detail and ability to learn on-the-job
- Knowledge of small hand tools and machines (band saw, plasma, torch, grinders, etc.)
- Ability to fabricate, fit and assemble basic and complex components and train others to do so.
- Attended a formal welding training program/classes (Voc. School, Tech. College, etc.)
- Non‑Destructive/Destructive Weld Testing knowledge
- Familiar with welding codes
- Welding machine troubleshooting and repair
- Robotic experience
Experience and education are a plus; however, it’s not required. Wabash provides training for all assembler positions. Upon receiving an offer letter from us, you’ll undergo orientation and several days of training, preparing you for the production floor.
