Medical Receptionist, Healthcare Administration
Birkwood Medical Centre is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, hardworking and motivated Receptionist for its busy GP Practice. This is a PART TIME post, working 16–18 hours per week, which may increase depending on workloads.
The candidate must be flexible and available to work over 5 days, Monday to Friday, in both morning and evening shifts, and to cover holiday and sickness when required.
Main duties of the job- Excellent communication skills, both face-to-face and on the telephone.
- Organised and efficient with administrative tasks.
- Friendly and professional manner at all times.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Recent experience of working in a GP surgery.
- Familiarity with Systm One.
Birkwood Medical Centre is a forward-thinking teaching practice with excellent QOF achievement, serving approximately 9,000 registered patients. We are located in a modern, purpose-built medical centre with excellent facilities for patients and staff.
Job responsibilities- Handling patient enquiries and requests courteously and efficiently.
- Efficient record keeping.
- Ensuring reception area/admin room are kept tidy at all times.
- Restoring telephone services to normal daytime use at the start of the day.
- Answering, documenting and forwarding incoming phone calls whilst providing basic information when required.
- Ensuring all post, deliveries, and couriers are dealt with appropriately.
- Receiving and routing patients and visitors on arrival.
- Making new and follow-up appointments and receiving and recording requests for home visits.
- Keeping the waiting area tidy and performing routine checks as required.
- Passing on information about any unresolved or outstanding matters to the next shift.
- Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions accordingly.
- Printing blood forms as necessary.
- Opportunistic screening for smoking status.
- Performing other clerical and administration duties such as tasks, filing, photocopying, and faxing as appropriate.
- Ensuring the answer phone message is recorded and activated at the end of shift.
- Updating waiting room information and displaying details of any current or upcoming campaigns where appropriate.
- Keeping all areas of the practice tidy and free from obstructions.
- Providing refreshments as required.
- Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Any other duties as appropriately requested by the GP, Reception Team Leaders, or Practice Manager.
- Experience with Systm One.
- Experience working in a GP surgery.

Wage:
