** Background and Context
** The University of Hull (UoH) is undertaking a range of projects related to climate change adaptation via transdisciplinary approaches that engage and inform stakeholders and communities, delivering related research and knowledge exchange. The current post will be based in the vibrant Energy and Environment Institute, which was established at the University in late 2016. The Institute’s vision is to be an internationally leading centre for research at the interfaces between energy and environmental resilience;
with a focus on global sustainability challenges and delivering research that makes a difference. The Institute has three primary goals: to research and discover; to innovate and deliver impact; and to act as a regional anchor and beacon for world leading research and knowledge exchange.
The Water Memories and Flood Futures project is looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to carry out research, community engagement and evaluation work. Water Memories and Flood Futures is a University of Hull project, funded through their Impact Acceleration Fund, that will conduct innovative and high impact research into flood histories around Grimsby, UK, in collaboration with their community partner, Our Big Picture (OBP), an heritage, arts and community registered charity.
The project will deliver a series of arts-based workshops based on local flood and water histories around Grimsby to groups of children and young people (from ages 7 to 19) and will culminate in a co-curated exhibition to be displayed in Grimsby and Hull.
** Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post
** The PDRA will be expected to: conduct historical research into Grimsby’s past flood and water histories to inform the design of the workshops in partnership with the project manager at OBP; attend and facilitate workshops run by OBP; assist with the design of the project’s exhibition; conduct monitoring and evaluation work for the project; co-produce publishable outputs with the project’s PI.It
is anticipated that the appointee to this post will have a PhD (or be close to being awarded one) in Human Geography, History, Social Sciences or a cognate field. Additionally: experience delivering interdisciplinary research projects; experience using qualitative research methods to collect primary data and deliver publications and presentations; experience designing and delivering public engagement activities and/or with community groups;
