RSP Teaching Assistant - Waltham Gateway Academy
Position:
Permanent RSP Teaching Assistant, full-time (32.5 hours per week, term time only).
Salary: LGAT 7 - £26,948 full-time equivalent. Actual salary: £20,237.95.
Overview:
Waltham Gateway Academy, established September 2025, currently serves 40 children with an expected enrolment of 65 in September 2026, and a future capacity of up to 210 pupils from Reception to Year 6. The academy also includes a Resource Specialist Provision (RSP) catering for up to 12 children across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The RSP currently has a lead teacher and two teaching assistants, catering for six children, with enrolment expected to grow to nine from September 2026. The role is to support the RSP teacher and staff in delivering a broad, balanced, specialist curriculum for children accessing the RSP.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with the RSP teacher and SENDCO to collaborate with academy staff and ensure a specialist curriculum is delivered.
- Support the teacher and colleagues in creating a nurturing and empathic approach, prioritising child-centred relational methods.
- Help embed ambitious expectations for all students with additional and special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring the curriculum is accessible for all.
- Champion trauma-awareness and relational learning principles, building strong, trusting relationships with children to create a safe learning environment.
- Apply creative and adaptable teaching strategies to meet the needs of children across key stages.
- Contribute to ongoing CPD and attend regular supervision sessions as part of the whole-school relational approach.
- Experienced teaching assistant with a strong desire to help children who have negative educational experiences to develop skills and confidence.
- Experience working with children across key stages is desirable; experience with children with additional needs, including SEMH, is vital.
- Good knowledge and practical understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
- Demonstrated specialist knowledge or training relevant to the position.
- Commitment to inclusivity and ensuring RSP is fully integrated within the academy.
- The role will start in September 2026.
