Want to be a part of a team that is on the frontline of Children and Young People's mental health?

If you are excited about making a real and lasting impact on children’s and young people’s mental wellbeing, this Education Mental Health Practitioner role offers varied, hands‑on work across schools. You will provide evidence‑based support to pupils with mild to moderate mental health needs, helping them manage anxiety, low mood and daily pressures, and empowering them to feel safer, stronger and more connected.

Beyond one‑to‑one sessions you will be a key part of each school’s wider wellbeing culture – advising teachers, supporting families, and embedding a whole‑school approach to emotional health. Your knowledge, communication and consistency will help make mental health support visible and effective.

Main duties
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT or solution‑focused brief therapy) and conduct mental health assessments for pupils.
  • Maintain accurate risk records and manage safeguarding and capacity issues, including Gillick competence.
  • Advising teachers, supporting families and liaising with external agencies to meet pupils’ diverse needs.
  • Travel between school sites (vehicle ownership or suitable alternative required).
  • Collaborate with staff to increase mental health awareness and deliver staff training where necessary.
Qualifications and experience
  • Recognised qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner.
  • Experience delivering therapeutic interventions to children and young people.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, capacity and consent frameworks.
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational or health setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and confidence managing risk.
  • Ability to travel between school sites; access to transport or reliable commute.
  • Additional experience with vulnerable groups (e.g., children in care) and group interventions is desirable.
Benefits
  • 27 days holiday + bank holidays, rising to 32 days over time (pro rata).
  • Life assurance at 2 × basic salary.
  • Competitive contributory pension scheme.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme and occupational health service.
  • Enhanced sick pay.
  • Excellent learning & development opportunities and career progression.
  • Annual salary review.
