Training and first year location:
Coleg Llandrillo (North Wales); third year on site at Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm (Grimsby).
Requirements: 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above, including Science, Maths and English.
Salary: £17,510 in the first year, rising incrementally each year in line with internal pay scales and the national minimum wage. Benefits include pension and private single medical cover.
Wind Turbine Technician ApprenticeshipRWE Renewables offers a comprehensive 3‑year apprenticeship that will develop selected candidates into technicians working on wind turbines. The first 2 years involve classroom-based training at a bespoke wind turbine training facility at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales, followed by on‑site training at Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm.
About the roleAs part of a small team, technicians will carry out all aspects of wind turbine maintenance—including scheduled, unscheduled, innovative, and troubleshooting tasks—using both mechanical and electrical equipment. The programme culminates in an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Wind Turbine Operations and Maintenance and a Level 3 Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance.
Responsibilities- Electro‑mechanical problem solving of wind turbines, working in small teams at height in remote locations using user manuals as reference
- Operating advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment safely
- Planning tools, spares and materials in advance for each job
- Fault finding and diagnosing wind turbine main component condition to assess repair feasibility or the need for replacement
- Ongoing personal development and training to become a multi‑skilled technician covering inspection, maintenance and repair of the wind turbines
- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above, including Science, Maths and English
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Ability to work at height, at sea and on shifts
- Residence within one hour of the site

Term‑time accommodation will be provided with rent and utilities paid by RWE. Daily commute to college will be paid unless RWE provides group travel. A weekly allowance for food and drink during term time is also supplied.
Travel to the assessment centreAll reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed for candidates invited to the assessment day, details to be discussed upon invitation.
Holidays25 days of holiday (to be taken outside of term time) plus public holidays.
