Buckingham Futures is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Practitioner / Senior Food Safety Officer to play a key role in protecting public health and ensuring compliance with food safety, health & safety, and environmental regulations across Lincolnshire.
You’ll be part of a dedicated regulatory services team, delivering inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities while providing expert guidance to businesses and the public. This is a varied role where no two days are the same—covering everything from food hygiene inspections and communicable disease control to public health enforcement and multi‑agency operations.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce legislation relating to food hygiene, food standards, health & safety, public health, and port health.
- Carry out inspections of food manufacturing, retail, storage, and distribution premises (including vessels where relevant).
- Investigate incidents such as food poisoning outbreaks, occupational health incidents, or notifiable diseases.
- Undertake enforcement action where required, including serving notices, seizing goods, prohibiting unsafe activities, and preparing prosecution files.
- Gather evidence, conduct interviews under PACE, and represent the authority in court when necessary.
- Respond to service requests, complaints, and public enquiries, ensuring professional and timely outcomes.
- Provide clear, practical advice to businesses—supporting compliance while helping them grow responsibly.
- Work closely with partner agencies such as the FSA, APHA, Border Force, Public Health bodies, HSE, and other local authorities.
We’re looking for a motivated professional with a strong background in environmental health and/or food safety regulation. You’ll need to be confident in making sound decisions, applying legislation, and managing challenging situations.
Essential Skills & Experience- Proven experience in inspections, enforcement, and advisory work across food, public health, and health & safety.
- In‑depth knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory frameworks.
- Competency to act as an Authorised Officer under the Food Law Code of Practice and Health & Safety enforcement.
- Strong investigative and evidence‑gathering skills, including PACE interviews and report writing.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical requirements clearly.
- IT literacy and ability to manage caseloads effectively.
- Flexible, adaptable, and resilient when faced with complex or sensitive situations.
- Accredited Environmental Health Officer (EHRB registered), or
- Holder of the Higher Certificate in Food Control with extensive experience in food regulatory controls, or
- Relevant qualification in occupational health & safety (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent), combined with substantial regulatory experience.
