Role Overview
The Maternity Ward Manager provides strategic, clinical and operational leadership for the Labour, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) ward, ensuring safe, high-quality, woman‑ and family‑centred care. The post holder is responsible for the effective management of the ward, leading multidisciplinary teams to achieve excellence in patient care, staff engagement, clinical governance and service performance. Working collaboratively across the maternity service, the Ward Manager promotes evidence‑based practice, continuous quality improvement and a culture of safety, ensuring the ward consistently meets organisational objectives and regulatory standards while delivering seamless care throughout the maternity journey.
Key Responsibilities- Provide midwifery leadership and act as a role model, with specialist expertise underpinned by theory and practical experience.
- Provide 24‑hour responsibility for management of the midwifery teams, managing staff and liaising with others as necessary.
- Continue responsibility for development of staff, equipment, supplies and ward/department resources.
