Job Description
The post holder will provide direct care and coordinate and supervise care delivery of junior team members by providing effective leadership and senior decision making in all aspects of the Shift Lead role within the Neonatal Wards. The post holder will also offer support for children and young people and their parents/carers, working both directly with patients/families and supporting, directing and educating other members of the wider multidisciplinary team.
ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for the day‑to‑day running and safety of the ward, working closely with the ward manager and deputy. This includes allocating nursing staff to care for the babies on the ward, acting as a role model for junior colleagues, being a resource for other staff and creating a ward environment of open and honest communication. You will conduct daily safety checks and initiate escalation of safety concerns such as staff shortfall, increasing dependency and acuity demands.
Qualificationsand Competencies
• Expert knowledge and competence in assessing and caring for babies with both chronic and acute illness, including those admitted for special care and intensive care.
• Ability to support staff on the transitional care ward.
• Competence in caring for a critically ill baby and knowledge of children’s safeguarding.
• Excellent communication skills with parents, babies’ families and colleagues.
This will be a rotational contract to cover days, nights, weekends and bank holidays on a temporary basis.
