About the roleAs a Casual Animal Technician, you will provide flexible technical support to the Animal Care and Animal Management provision, ensuring high standards of animal welfare and the safe, effective operation of practical learning environments. Working as part of the technical team, you will assist with the day-to-day care of a range of animal species, including feeding, cleaning, watering, health monitoring, enrichment, and maintaining enclosures to ensure they meet welfare and legislative requirements.
You will prepare practical teaching areas and resources, ensuring facilities are clean, well maintained, and ready for lessons. The role may also involve supervising students during practical sessions, supporting staff with the delivery of practical activities, and providing guidance to help learners develop safe and effective animal handling and husbandry skills.
The role requires a commitment to excellent customer service, teamwork, and maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with Health & Safety, safeguarding, and animal welfare legislation.
About the personThe successful candidate will have experience of working with animals and a good understanding of animal husbandry, welfare, and health and safety practices. They will be organised, reliable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Applicants should hold, or be working towards, a Level 2 qualification (or above) in Animal Care, Animal Management, or a related subject. GCSE English and Maths at Level 2 (or equivalent) are essential. A First Aid qualification is desirable, or a willingness to achieve one.
Previous experience working with animals is desirable, along with a good understanding of animal husbandry, welfare, and health and safety practices. The successful candidate will be organised, reliable, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
