The purpose of this role is to complete the relevant stage of food testing to the required quality standards and internal methods/procedures. Further, assist in the efficient day‑to‑day operation of the laboratory.

This is a full‑time position working 37.5 hours per week. Working one of the following shift patterns:

– Sunday to Thursday 12:00 till 20:00.

– Tuesday to Saturday 12:00 till 20:00.

Main duties will include:

• To carry out registration of food samples in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out processing of food samples in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out media preparation in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out reading/confirmation tests in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out media QC, IQC, environmental monitoring in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• Adhering to documented procedures for the relevant section of the laboratory, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.
• Responsible for ensuring that UK health and safety legislation is maintained and helping to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner.
• Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual.
• To assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.
• Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
• Read and comply with company rules, procedures, agreements and any notices displayed by the Company.
• Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the line manager.

• Degree or equivalent in science and experience in a laboratory would be desirable but not essential as full training is provided.
• Good organisational and technical problem‑solving skills.
• Capable of working well under pressure.
• Reliable and thorough.
