Water Microbiology Laboratory Technician

The purpose of this post is to complete, to the required quality standards, the preparation of water samples and to assist in the efficient day‑to‑day operation of the laboratory.

Please note this is a part‑time weekend role, working 15 hours per week – Saturday and Sunday 07:00 till 15:00. Full training for this role will be provided, no previous laboratory experience necessary.

• Preparation and analysis of water samples utilising good laboratory practice.
• Preparing and dispensing of consumables.
• Ensure samples received are handled in accordance with documented procedures, including attention to temperature control, storage and maintenance of sample integrity.
• Maintenance of accurate and systematic records as detailed in the quality procedures.
• Perform calibrations, daily checks and other quality related tasks as required.
• Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
• Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
• Report any anomalies or concerns to direct report.
• Undergo training and follow laboratory SOPs and Safe Systems of Work.
• Comply with Health and Safety procedures keeping the working environment clean and tidy.
• Maintenance of laboratory fittings and equipment as directed.
• Ensure personal protective equipment is worn in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.

• Maths, English, Science at GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in a fast paced working environment.
• Awareness of good laboratory practices would be of advantage.
• Enthusiasm, energy and a driven outlook.
