The city of Grinnell is accepting applications for a certified Iowa Class IV wastewater operator (or ability to obtain within 6 months) to work as the Director of Wastewater Operations. Responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility as well as collections and pumping facilities.
Grinnell is an exceptional opportunity for several reasons. The city of Grinnell recently invested $14 million in the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility. We have also completed significant improvements to the sanitary sewer system which include complete reconstruction of the sanitary sewer system in the downtown, lining and manhole repairs in the entire southwest and southeast quadrants of the community, and numerous other lining and maintenance projects.

Job Requirements- Must possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record and be insurable under the city’s policy.
- Strong mechanical skills to repair related equipment.
- Must have initiative to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Office products is essential to the job.
- Other wastewater certifications or experience with city public works operations would be helpful.
- Wastewater treatment experience of five years or more preferred.
- Iowa Grade IV Wastewater Certification – or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Ability and willingness to respond to after-hour emergencies.
- Salary dependent upon qualifications. Salary range is $91,628 to $119,119.
