SummaryThe goal of teachers at The Little Log Schoolhouse is to provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where self‑concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Protect the safety of all children in the center.
- Directly supervise children at all times.
- Use positive phrasing with children.
- Communicate frequently with children throughout the day, naming objects, actions, using who, what, when, where, and why, and open‑ended questions.
- Exhibit behavior management consistent with The Little Log Schoolhouse philosophy, including reflecting children's feelings, approaching children to speak with them, and directing comments toward children's behavior, not at the children themselves.
- Co‑play/interact with children during play activities both indoors and on the playground.
- Treat each child with dignity and respect, recognizing the cultural and socio‑economic diversity of the population.
- Respond to the individual needs and learning styles of children.
- Plan activities reflecting the anti‑bias philosophy of The Little Log Schoolhouse with age‑appropriate and individualized activities. Provide a well‑balanced schedule of individual/group activities, and active/quiet activities with variations of structure.
- Comply with applicable universal precautions and infection control guidelines and procedures.
- Interact with parents.
- Create a classroom environment reflecting the diversity of children & families and children's interests, including all areas of the room, i.e., blocks, dramatic play, manipulatives, literacy, art, science, math, and music.
- Have good work habits, be in place and ready to work at scheduled time, and show no undue tardiness or absenteeism.
- Create a weekly lesson plan.
- Follow all NAEYC, CT ELDs and CT DOTS standards.
- Must meet ECE teacher requirements.
- Bachelor's Degree in ECE or related field; experience with at least 12 credits in early childhood education. An Associate's in Early Childhood Education may be considered if the applicant is willing and able to pursue higher education in accordance with NAEYC and state guidelines.
- Complete all required trainings to obtain the position.
- Receive a background check and be fingerprinted within a month.
- Provide evidence of physical exam and MMR verification.
- Meet physical constraints: ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid; ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses; ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances; ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds; and use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of the building during emergencies.

- Full‑time (35 hours or more) employees receive one week’s vacation after one year of service.
