At Game Stop, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations, driving sales culture, guest service, and team performance. This role involves retail management, visual merchandising, inventory control, and customer engagement.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide best‑in‑class guest service, greeting guests promptly, answering questions, recommending items, and ensuring the store is welcoming.
  • Support the shopping environment, visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and build relationships that drive repeat business.
  • Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the POS system, providing receipts and top‑notch service.
  • Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, escalating issues to the Store Manager when necessary.
  • Promote Game Stop guest benefits, including title reservations, trade‑in and Pro Rewards programs.
  • Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations, training associates, and monitoring performance.
  • Provide timely feedback and recognition to associates, inputting written feedback in Workday/HR systems.
  • Ensure all associates complete onboarding, job and compliance training before shifting alone.
  • Schedule associates following guidelines, maintaining optimal staffing levels and breaks.
  • Approve payroll, enter paid time off, and verify associates are compensated for all hours worked.
  • Maintain a clean, organized store, ensuring fixtures and equipment are in working order.
  • Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
  • Protect company assets through inventory control, loss prevention, and safety procedures. Inspect packages at closing or end of shift.
  • Support store team in exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals; complete required administrative duties.
  • Perform store inventory counts, restock merchandise, and organize products on shelves.
  • Balance and reconcile daily business transactions, completing closeout paperwork and bank deposits accurately.
  • Verify shipments for discrepancies, record them, and communicate to the Store Manager/District Manager.
  • Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls promptly, labeling boxes with packing lists.
  • Maintain awareness of safety; report injuries and hazardous situations.
  • Assist in maintaining neat store records/files and keep manuals updated.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence.
  • Adhere to Game Stop policies, procedures, and the Associate Handbook, Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures consistently.
Qualifications
  • Proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
  • At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, or management experience preferred.
  • Video game knowledge preferred.
