The Non-Destructive Test Engineering (NDTE) Supplier Support Group has a challenging but rewarding opportunity for the right individual. The NDTE Supplier Support Group provides technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers on the subject of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) required for the construction and maintenance of nuclear submarines.
Basic job responsibilities will include:
- Attendance of In-depth Supplier Assessments (ISA) to evaluate supplier NDT performance and program administration.
- Support follow-up activities identified during ISAs to include interfacing and working with suppliers, NDT Examiner Staff, Cognizant Engineering, Supplier Quality, SUPSHIP and NAVSEA
- Coordinate with NDT Examiners to provide technical guidance, expertise, and problem resolution for suppliers.
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of NDT
- Travel for this position is expected to be 25% or less.
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Engineering
- Internal candidate(s) must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel)
Preferred:
- 4+ years of related NDT experience
- Engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
- Familiarity with NDT methods
- Experience with NDT methods and applications to ensure acceptable weld and base metal performance for submarine construction
- Advanced computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point (or equivalent)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a technical and nontechnical audience.
- Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP and NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations, make recommendations and take prompt and effective action.
