D476 Groton COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering is seeking highly motivated engineers to work hands on solving deckplate issues. With the primary responsibility of proactively supporting COLUMBIA Class construction efforts in the Groton shipyard, the Construction Support Engineering team provides direct support to the shipyard trades and support organizations to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous completion of construction activities in a manner that results in delivery of ships consistent with the design intent.
Construction Support Engineering is also responsible for supporting sea trials. Engineers will interface with Operations, Ship's Management, Planning, Design and Engineering, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), and PMS
397 to act as the primary engineering interface for the Groton shipyard construction team.
D476 Groton COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering provides mentoring and training for engineers who are new to construction.
This is a 2nd shift position located in Groton, CT as part of D476 Construction Support Engineering.
Responsibilities- Provide engineering oversight and assistance to trade personnel
- Evaluate emergent shipyard issues that arise during construction and rapidly develop technically acceptable resolutions
- Interpret design, drawing, and specification requirements
- Providing direction and evaluation to Groton trades via disposition of CNs and TIR UNSATs
- Support final assembly, test, certification, and delivery activities for COLUMBIA Class
- Provide surveillance of manufacturing, inspection, and testing of material in the Groton shipyard
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering evaluations
- Facilitate implementation of the design, lessons learned, and process improvements
- Facilitate discipline specific knowledge transfer to the construction support engineering team
- Coordinate engagement of design and engineering SMEs in the construction sequence
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, Civil, Marine, or electrical
- 0-5 years of discipline specific (structural, mechanical, piping or electrical) engineering experience
- Ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance or higher is required
Preferred:
- Prior deck plate construction experience is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Electronic Desktop (7G, Work Orders, ELCADD, ERS, etc.)
- Familiarity with Team Center (CR/CN experience)
- Prior US Navy or operations experience
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Highly motivated with the ability to perform independently
- Ability to interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment
