Job Summary

Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and or Navy Lodge property including but not limited to cleaning guest rooms interior public spaces storage areas laundry rooms exterior spaces etc. These services include but are not limited to vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, removing debris, trash, transporting clean and dirty linen, towels etc.

Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Cleans guest rooms and other assigned areas.
  • Operates cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, waxer, polisher).
  • Empties wastebaskets and polishes room furniture.
  • Washes walls, partitions, air vents and disinfects and deodorizes toilet bowls and lavatories.
  • Washes and replaces window treatments and cleans ceiling fixtures.
  • Changes light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds.
  • Moves furniture to clean under and behind using step stool for window treatments, cabinet tops, mirrors and picture frames.
  • Cleans bathroom areas (tub, tiles, walls, commode, floors, vanity).
  • Cleans kitchen area (stoves, ovens, microwave, refrigerator, cabinets and floor).
  • Washes and disinfects dishes, utensils and cookware.
  • Cleans iron and ironing board and replaces cover as necessary.
  • Ensures proper functionality of luggage racks and ensures proper number of male/female hangers in closets.
  • Ensures TVs are clean and programmed, alarm clocks are programmed, in‑room phones are clean and working.
  • Places proper number of amenities in rooms.
  • Removes and replaces bed linen, inspects mattresses, and pulls out sofas.
  • Moves or repositions beds.
  • Greets and welcomes guests, maintaining outstanding guest relations.
  • Ensures privacy and security of guests.
  • Cleans vacuums and mops corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios and balconies.
  • Shampoos rugs and carpets, polishes rails.
  • Perform scheduled carpet cleaning using heavy industrial equipment.
  • Perform deep cleaning as required (pet friendly rooms, ADA service animal rooms).
  • Maintains cleanliness and order of storage rooms.
  • Communicates status of cleaned rooms to supervisor via daily assignments or property management system.
  • Accomplishes minor repairs and maintenance of equipment.
  • Cleans and inspects exterior spaces (parking lots, outside passageways).
  • Loads/unloads trucks and assists with receipt of supplies, opens boxes and crates, may move heavy items using hand truck, and uses common hand tools.
  • Responsible for pass key; returns all keys at the end of each shift.
  • Reports any issues (no luggage, service needed, room status, extra guests, unauthorized pets, etc.) to supervisor immediately.
  • Reports lost and found items immediately.
  • Responsible for set‑up and breakdown of complimentary self‑service breakfast bar, preparing, displaying and replenishing breakfast items.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment, completes required safety and security training, and follows NHG protocols.
  • Performs laundry operations at the facility.
  • May require valid state driver’s license to travel to other lodging facilities.
  • May be required to obtain NHG housekeeping certification within six months of employment.
Qualifications
  • No experience required; high school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Physical requirements:

    moderate effort moving furniture and using hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment.
  • Must obtain or possess valid NHG housekeeping certification within six months of employment; a valid state driver’s license may be required.
  • Must obtain proper food handling certification as applicable.
