Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear-powered submarines for the US Navy, experiencing a period of unprecedented growth! We are seeking individuals eager to learn and grow within our Sheet metal Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

With over a century of experience, Electric Boat has established high standards in the design, construction, and lifecycle support of submarines for the U.S. Navy, while maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. A Sheet metal Worker is responsible for interpreting construction drawings and performing tasks such as layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of light gage metalwork. This includes air-conditioned ductwork, lockers, cabinets, prefabricated bulkheads, doors, furniture, and Formica.

Work is carried out using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, shipyard procedures, and shop machinery. Work conditions may include entry into restricted or confined spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED or 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant sheet metal fabrication experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational, Technical, and Community College or Apprentice program completion
  • Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program
  • Previous metal fabrication experience
  • Experience in military shipbuilding, manufacturing, or the automotive industry

Skills:

  • Ability to work all shifts and in various environments, including radiological areas of the boat
  • Willingness to accept road job assignments
  • Possession of own basic hand tools
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance

Physical Qualifications: Climbing, color vision, crawling, heavy lifting, kneeling, light and medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, twisting.

Environmental Attributes: Exposure to acids or alkalis, cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, noise, oily, outside, wet conditions.
