Overview

Job Responsibilities:

The Outside Electrician is responsible for:

  • Installing wireways supporting cables in submarines, and installing cables and electrical components (nuclear and non-nuclear), including power distribution switchboards, telephones, control systems, electronics, and weapon systems.
  • Installing, tagging out, and testing ship's lighting systems.
  • Hooking up cables to electrical components following NAVSEA methods and procedures, such as hard wiring and connectorization.
  • Grooming electrical components for inspections and providing documentation for each job performed. Skills include vulcanization of ship's cables and installation and maintenance of shipboard temporary services.
  • Learning and applying skills in power and data/signal cable splicing.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED or 2+ years of related technical experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Availability for all shifts

Preferred:

  • Experience in vocational, technical colleges, apprentice programs, military, shipbuilding, or manufacturing sectors
  • Completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative Training Program

Physical

Qualifications:

  • Climbing, crawling, kneeling, heavy, light, and medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, twisting, color vision

Environmental Attributes:

  • Exposure to acids or alkalis, cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, noise, oily, outside, wet conditions
