Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear powered submarines for the US Navy. We are experiencing a period of unprecedented growth! We are looking for individuals eager to learn and grow within our Pipe fitting Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Fabricate and install piping systems that carry ship's liquids and gases at various pressures.
  • Apply measurement, fit-up, bending, and installation skills to meet tight tolerances.
  • Perform pipe fit-up involving welded joints, silver brazed joints, or mechanically fastened joints.
  • Work with a range of piping sizes from very small tubing to large diameter pipes.
  • Systems include hydraulic, lube oil, low-pressure air, low and high-pressure steam, seawater, chilled water, and potable water.
  • Prepare systems for inspections by Company, Navy, and Government.
  • Use freeze seals during operational repairs.
  • Operate in conditions that may require entry into restricted and confined spaces.

    Qualifications:

    Required:
    • High School Diploma/GED or 2+ years of relevant technical experience
    • 5+ years of relevant pipe fitting or related mechanical experience
    Preferred:
    • Completion of vocational, technical, or community college programs or apprenticeship
    • Military shipbuilding, manufacturing, or shipyard experience
    • Completion of CT Department of Labor Eastern Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Training Program
    Skills:
    • Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, blueprints, test documents, and diagrams
    • Willingness to work all shifts and in various environments, including radiological areas
    • Acceptance of road assignments
    • Ability to obtain and maintain nuclear qualifications
    • Own basic hand tools required

    • Climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, stooping, twisting, lifting (light and medium), pulling, pushing
