Base pay range

$65,000.00/yr - $75,000.00/yr

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist supports and maintains the site’s environmental, health, and safety programs, activities, and control measures. They coordinate these efforts with various compliance programs to protect all personnel and physical assets. This role helps ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements under federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the day‑to‑day facility operations, including:

  • Develop and initiate programs and processes in partnership with site management to reduce the frequency and severity of occupational injuries, illnesses, and property losses.
  • Integrate risk/loss controls into daily operations with the organization.
  • Support employee‑led safety committees.
  • Maintain incident management systems and processes, including change procedures and documentation, and safety observation and hazard tracking systems.
  • Record and analyze incident records and make recommendations regarding corrective action, emphasizing proactive intervention based on results of root cause analysis.
  • Support implementation of compliance programs with safety, health, and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead all site EHS training.
  • Foster a positive safety culture through professional and proactive interactions with employees and maintaining a strong shop‑floor presence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of work experience in an environmental, health, and safety role or equivalent.
  • Bi‑lingual English & Spanish preferred.
  • Three (3) years’ experience working in an industrial environment.
  • Prior experience using a safety management system.
  • Prior experience leading Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) training programs.
  • Experience working in a Process Safety Management (PSM) chemical facility.
  • Knowledge of standardized business processes and internal control systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) & Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
  • Ability to present and train across all organizational levels, from leadership to frontline employees.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (advanced Excel) and Learning Management System (LMS) platforms.
Working Conditions

EH&S Specialists often handle documentation and analyze data. As well as time in the field, inspecting facilities, conducting safety audits, and monitoring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

  • Work Hours:
    • Work hours may vary depending on needs and may include some nights and weekends.
  • Safety Standards:
    • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets, gloves, hard‑toe shoes, and safety glasses and/or goggles.
    • Regular safety drills, including fire and emergency evacuation procedures.
    • Clearly marked emergency exits and first aid stations.
  • Work Environment:
    • The role may require standing for extended periods, walking around the facility, squatting, and occasionally lifting or moving heavy objects.
    • Well‑ventilated and adequately lit work spaces.
    • Working in a non‑temperature‑controlled warehouse can involve exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Training and Development:
    • Comprehensive onboarding training for all new employees, covering safety, operational procedures, and equipment use.
    • Continuous training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Regular safety training updates and refresher courses.
