The Environmental and Natural Resources Supervisor provides leadership, vision, and professional oversight for the City’s environmental programing, sustainability initiatives and the Gardens at Gantz within the Parks and Recreation Department. This position manages operations for Keep Grove City Beautiful, all environmental programming, the City of Grove City’s recycling efforts and the Gardens at Gantz Farm, while developing new, innovative, community-focused programs that enhance environmental awareness and stewardship.

The Supervisor is responsible for planning, budgeting, and administering programs that connect residents with nature through education, volunteerism, and public engagement. The position ensures that the environmental programs and Gardens at Gantz Farm are maintained to the highest standards and evolve to meet current community needs and best environmental practices.

The Supervisor shall be chosen solely on the basis of their executive and administrative qualifications in the profession of parks and recreation, as shown by the adequacy of their technical training and their successful experience in parks and recreation or related fields.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Parks and Recreation Management or a related field preferred; however, candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible professional experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental programming, sustainability initiatives, or Parks and Recreation Management, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate multiple programs and facilities simultaneously.
  • Skill in building partnerships, community, outreach, and public speaking.
  • Competence in budget management, report preparation, and grant administration.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (required) and recreation management (preferred) software.
  • Certification or training such as NRPA, CPRP, or similar credentials (preferred).
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed for programs and events.

  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

Essential Functions of the Position

The Environmental and Natural Resources Supervisor has the following duties under the immediate supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation:

Plan, direct, and evaluate environmental programs, services, environmental events, including Eco Fest, Keep Grove City Beautiful, community clean-up efforts, and educational workshops.

Oversee daily operations of the Gardens at Gantz, including classes and tours, the Community Gardens, and other environmental sites.

Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative initiatives that promote sustainability, conservation, and environmental education throughout Grove City.

Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time staff, volunteers, and interns; provide leadership to foster teamwork and accountability.

Prepare and manage program budgets, including revenue projections, purchasing, and cost‑recovery goals consistent with departmental policy.

Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, schools, and civic groups to expand programming and engagement in environmental initiatives.
