Within the School of Continuing Studies, English Language Communication and Culture (ELCC) encompass the English Language Certificate program (ELCP), Business English Program, customized language programs, and ELCC Guaranteed Admission Pathway (GAP). Our programs and pathways are designed to help English language learners from the low intermediate to advanced level succeed in their development and meet English proficiency requirements for entry to degree programs at the University of Guelph.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
Reporting to the Program Manager, English Language Communication and Culture, the English Language Instructor is responsible for providing English language instruction to ELCC students. This includes the development of class instruction based on program curricula and learning outcomes, the development and delivery of engaging lessons, learning experiences, and assessments, and the creation of a supportive classroom environment for student learning. Instructors are responsible for the ongoing evaluation of student progress and for providing students with convenient and timely feedback to support their continued development.
Additionally, the instructor provides feedback to the ELCC Program Manager and Curriculum Coordinator to support continuous improvement of ELCC programming.
- An undergraduate degree and TESL Canada Level 1 Professional certification or equivalent (required). A Master’s degree in applied linguistics or education with specialization in TESL is preferred.
- At least two years of experience in English language instruction in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching academic English skills to students from diverse cultural backgrounds at all levels of English proficiency.
- Ability to create engaging and interactive lessons consistent with the expectations of the ELCC instructor guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills, problem‑solving skills, and flexibility are essential.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in standard computer programs, including the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).
- Experience teaching with an LMS (preferably D2L Brightspace) in a hybrid learning environment.
- Demonstrated experience working as a team member with a positive attitude.
