Job Overview
The Wellington Catholic District School Board invites qualified applicants for the casual position of Supply Educational Assistant. The Board requires Supply Educational Assistants for elementary and secondary schools to work in Guelph, Elora, Fergus, Erin, Arthur, Mount Forest and Rockwood.
Pay RateQualified
: $28.27 per hour + 4% vacation pay.
Unqualified
: $24.47 per hour + 4% vacation pay.
Under the direction of the Principal, the classroom teacher, and in consultation with the special education resource teacher, the educational assistant works with special needs students both individually and/or in a group setting. The educational assistant supports students in achieving personal, social, academic and physical development. Educational Assistants must possess willingness, along with the physical ability, to work with all of our students who have many diverse needs.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications and Experience (Qualified)
- Successful completion of a post‑secondary Educational Assistant/Support diploma program.
- May also consider other fields related to the development of children and/or special education including but not limited to Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Child and Youth Worker (CYW), Nursing, Early Childhood Educator (ECE), and Personal Support Worker (PSW).
- Successful completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with children or voluntary experience in a school setting is an asset.
- Post‑secondary courses related to the development of children and/or special education is an asset.
- Minimum 1‑year experience working with children related to physically, developmentally and/or behaviorally challenged special needs is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks, including lifting, toileting and diapering.
- Relevant additional training is an asset.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder Training is an asset.
- Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training is an asset.
- Flexibility, patience and the ability to work closely with the classroom teacher and Principal.
- Ability to function independently within the framework of a team.
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information.
- A positive and empathetic attitude towards students.
Successful external candidates will be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment. The CRC must be dated within 6 months of the date of acceptance of employment, and in most cases must include a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
