THE OPPORTUNITYThe UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Student Support Services team for a temporary full‑time opportunity in the capacity of Child Youth Counsellor.

Hours:
1.0 FTE; 35 hours per week
Salary Range: $57,801 - $78,770 per year (based on 1.0 FTE full‑time annual salary), plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Start Date: To commence September 2, 2026
End Date: Unknown end date
Board Information: 10‑month position (yearly from September – June following the school year calendar); temporary; full‑time;

Reporting to the school Principal, the responsibilities of the Child Youth Counsellor are as follows:
Responsibilities- To address the emotional barriers to student success
- Development of preventive social/behavioural programming
- Direct service to students relative to social, emotional or behavioural issues (i.e. conflict resolution, anger management, appropriate learning behaviours, peer interaction)
- Provide support to students and parents around a variety of social issues, including effective parenting, dealing with divorce and bereavement
- Acts as a liaison between school and parents, school and community agencies
- Assist with development of action plans and IEP'S for students around social, emotional and behavioural issues
- Other duties as assigned
- Child and Youth Worker Diploma or Degree and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with behaviour and mental health needs
- Experience working in the school system, consultation experience, and knowledge of collaborative proactive solutions and Zones of Regulation
- Full membership as a Professional certified in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care
- Experience with individual and group counselling, behavioural management programming
