ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) INSTRUCTOR - SUPPLY LIST

The UGDSB is situated on the ancestral, treaty and title lands of two Anishinaabek Ojibwe Nations: the Michi Saagig of the Credit and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. This land also includes a specified tract of land granted to the Six Nations of the Grand River. These Nations hold legal and specific rights in their respective territories. This area has been and continues to be home for Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous peoples.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The St. George's Centre for ESL (part of the Continuing Education department within the Upper Grand District School Board) is looking for skilled, passionate and qualified individuals for our adult non-credit English as a Second Language (ESL) Supply List. These instructors will fill in for absent ESL Instructors on an as-needed basis and on short notice for short-term, temporary positions in the Upper Grand DSB.

Employees on our Supply List can apply for long-term assignments and permanent positions as they become available.

The Upper Grand District School Board's adult non-credit ESL program provides settlement-focused English language training for eligible adult newcomers who want to learn English or improve the English skills they already have. English language classes are held Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:10 p.m., and Mondays and Wednesdays 6:20 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Class levels range from Foundation Literacy to Canadian Benchmark Level 6.

Location: Guelph

Hours/Days of Work: Where there is no guarantee of hours per week as this is a causal position, a causal employee with full availability will have more opportunity to accept available positions as they arise.

Rate of pay: $36.49 to $41.19 per hour

  • TESL Ontario accreditation (in good standing)
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Familiarity with LINC curriculum documents
  • Knowledge of and experience with Portfolio Based Language Assessment
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver a multi-level task-based curriculum
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology in the classroom and computer skills
