Automation Engineer

Job Description

As an Automation Engineer at Skyjack, you will be responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining automation systems that enhance our manufacturing operations. You will work with state‑of‑the‑art technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, robots, and industrial network protocols. Your expertise in mechanical and electrical design, combined with your programming skills, will play a critical role in optimizing our production processes and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Expectations
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens).
  • Develop and integrate robotic systems into manufacturing processes.
  • Configure and maintain industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.) and architecture.
  • Implement data collection and SCADA systems for real‑time monitoring and reporting.
  • Create mechanical designs using Solid Works for automation equipment and systems.
  • Develop electrical schematics and control panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automation systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to production teams.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in automation technology and industry trends.
Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in industrial automation and control systems.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs and HMIs for Allen Bradley, Omron, and Siemens.
  • Experience with robot programming and integration.
  • Experience with specified robotic systems (e.g., ABB, Fanuc, KUKA).
  • Experience with robotic welding processes and systems (e.g., robotic MIG welding).
  • Experience with robot simulation software (e.g., Robot Studio, RoboGUIDE).
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO 13849, CSA‑Z434).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Project management experience.
Desired Characteristics
  • Strong knowledge of industrial network protocols and architecture.
  • Expertise in data collection software (e.g., Ignition, Factory Talk, Wonderware).
  • Proficient in mechanical design using Solid Works.
  • Skilled in electrical design using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able and willing to travel and work internationally.
