Laboratory Technician

GEI is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting our materials testing operations by conducting laboratory tests and analyses on soils, aggregates, and concrete. Working alongside a talented team of professionals, you will ensure the delivery of accurate and reliable data to support engineering and construction projects in the Ontario market.

The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for staff members to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario and expand our geotechnical engineering services specific to Materials Testing and Inspection. GEI’s earth sciences practice leadership in Ontario is located Guelph, and an expectation would be for the successful candidate to be present in the Guelph branch office to facilitate in-person collaboration with the team.

• Conduct laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, and concrete, including but not limited to sieve analysis, moisture-density relationships, and compressive strength testing.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of test results and observations.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure consistent and accurate results.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
• Perform field sampling and testing as required.

• A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience in a materials testing lab or related field is an asset.
• Familiarity with CCIL/ASTM standards and procedures is an advantage.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
