Intermediate Water Resources/River Engineer – the role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management, and stakeholder collaboration to deliver river engineering and restoration solutions for both private and public clients. Candidates will work from Guelph, London, or Oakville offices, driving design, construction, and client engagement across multi‑disciplinary teams.
Job Summary• Compensation range: $34.00 to $58.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
• Will travel within Ontario, Canada and North America to support projects.
- Lead engineering analysis and design for river engineering and natural systems restoration projects.
- Lead engineering analysis and design for urban drainage and surface water management projects.
- Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of riverine, valley‑land, wetland, and shoreline restoration works, including green infrastructure, bank/bed stabilization, channel realignment, shoreline stabilization, and erosion and sediment control measures.
- Conduct specialized hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of urban and natural systems (e.g., PCSWMM).
- Support river engineering and environmental assessment tasks.
- Participate in erosion threshold assessments and sediment transport analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of channel restoration concepts.
- Contribute to detailed designs, construction cost estimates, and tender specifications.
- Provide resident engineering and contract administration support for construction projects.
- Manage project budgets, invoicing, scheduling, change management, and client relations.
- Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams including hydrogeological, geotechnical, geomorphic, survey, landscape design, transportation, structural, and natural sciences disciplines.
- Lead and support field data collection, site reconnaissance, and topographic surveying.
- Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members.
- Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and work plans.
- Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and client relationship building.
- Work with regulatory agencies to obtain approvals.
- 5+ years of experience in water resources and river engineering, with a focus on assessment of natural systems and design, construction, and project management of river restoration projects.
- Professional Engineer designation with PEO is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Experience writing technical reports and proposals, and presenting to multi‑stakeholder groups.
- Ability to contribute to projects of various sizes and complexity simultaneously.
- Knowledge of current regulations, legislation, and permitting.
- Experience with design and drafting software such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Q‑GIS, AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
- Experience with water resources modeling software (HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, SWAT, HSP‑F, EFDC) is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing detailed designs, construction cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender/procurement packages.
- Valid Class G driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record.
