Job Description

This role coordinates multidisciplinary engineering activities across civil, electrical, structural, environmental, and interconnection work streams to advance utility-scale renewable energy projects from development into execution. The Electrical Project Engineer serves as the lead technical resource for electrical scope, with a strong focus on collection systems and associated underground and overhead infrastructure, while ensuring alignment with civil, structural, and overall project design requirements.

The position acts as a technical generalist and project integrator, balancing engineering quality, schedule, cost, constructability, and operational considerations to drive practical decisions and maintain project momentum. The engineer supports the development of engineering packages through key stage-gate milestones, typically up to approximately 30% design, defining project requirements, identifying technical risks, coordinating stakeholder input, and facilitating a smooth transition into detailed design, procurement, and construction execution.

The role offers broad exposure to utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects and provides the opportunity to influence key design decisions across the full project lifecycle.

Job Title:

Electrical Project Engineer Responsibilities
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities across civil, electrical, structural, environmental, and interconnection work streams for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Serve as the lead technical resource for electrical engineering scope, with a strong focus on collection systems and associated underground and overhead infrastructure.
  • Ensure electrical designs align with civil, structural, and overall project design requirements to deliver integrated and constructible solutions.
  • Provide technical support and oversight for high-voltage substations and interconnection interfaces as required.
  • Act as a technical generalist and project integrator, balancing engineering rigor, schedule, cost, constructability, and operational considerations to drive practical project decisions.
  • Support the development of engineering packages through key stage-gate milestones, typically up to approximately 30% design completion.
  • Define project electrical requirements and performance criteria in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate technical risks related to electrical systems, interconnection, and collection infrastructure, and support mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate stakeholder input from development, engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure alignment on project scope and design.
  • Facilitate a seamless transition of projects from development into detailed design, procurement, and construction execution.
  • Support the preparation, review, and refinement of single-line diagrams and other key electrical design documents.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to address constructibility issues and help solve technical challenges as projects advance.
  • Work closely with internal engineering teams and development partners to coordinate engineering packages across disciplines.
  • Engage with interconnection entities and system operators to support utility-scale interconnection processes in Canada and the United States.
  • Contribute to projects involving utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems, including collection systems, substations, transmission interconnections, and balance-of-plant infrastructure.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, providing concise technical explanations and updates.
  • Participate in periodic site visits, as needed, to support design reviews, constructibility assessments, and field issue resolution.
  • Support the organization’s long-term growth by contributing to a steady pipeline of renewable energy projects across North America.
Essential Skills
  • 5–15 years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 5+ years directly related to electrical engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Direct experience with electrical packages for utility-scale projects, including design and coordination of key electrical components.
  • Direct experience with electrical collection systems, including underground and overhead infrastructure.
  • Experience with utility-scale interconnection processes and requirements.
  • Utility-scale renewables experience in both Canada and the United States.
  • Familiarity coordinating high-voltage renewables infrastructure and substations.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.
  • Eligibility or experience as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), where applicable.
  • Experience working with or within the IESO and AESO frameworks for interconnection and grid integration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to…
