Position Overview

Resumes are being accepted for the position of Public Works Contract Compliance within the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Public Works, the successful candidate will assist with supporting the public works team with contract administration including liaise with contractors, tracking progress, field verifications and measurements, and invoice review. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City’s Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.

duties and responsibilities
  • Support Public Works staff with contract administration including invoice verification for payment.
  • Conduct field measurements of asphalt, concrete, landscape and sidewalks restoration.
  • Support staff with on site inspections, and record keeping of work completed by a contractor.
  • Utilize asset management system (WAM) to look up work orders.
  • Support with pavement markings, signal and sign asset inventory.
  • Update asset inventory and contract completion in GIS to document asset attributes and measurements.
  • Comply with all City regulations, policies and procedures including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Post Secondary education in Civil Engineering or a related program and 1-2 years experience in contract administration including compliance inspection, monitoring and documentation, of the contractual terms and conditions.
  • A valid Class G drivers’ licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their license is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years.

    The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
  • Knowledge of City of Guelph Linear Infrastructure Specifications and Ontario Provincial Standards Specifications (OPSS).
  • Experience with administering contractors and ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Must be a reliable self-starter able to work alone and with supervision.
  • Ability to problem solve with good decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong focus on customer service
  • Experience with data entry focusing on accuracy and high attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Windows Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook and able to work on a computer and/or tablet.
  • Experience working with computer applications such as GIS systems and WAM (CMMS system)
  • Proficient time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between a variety of duties.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Hours of work
35 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
