The Opportunity:

The Microbial Technologist - Contract will be responsible for supporting laboratory operations by conducting the relevant biological testing. This role ensures tests are conducted in accordance with standard procedures and regulations. To be successful, one must be team oriented, organized, have excellent attention to detail, dependable, high energy and urgency, and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Perform testing on samples received in the lab as directed, accurately reporting results into appropriate forms or databases.
  • Design and implement viable experiments for investigative projects, including development of experimental design, conducting the investigation, and forming conclusions. Create summary reports with raw data, project hours, and supply usage.
  • Develop/modify procedures and test methods, perform verification/validation of methods as needed.
  • Perform startup/shut‑down procedures for the laboratory, including equipment start‑up/shut‑down, laboratory disinfection/cleaning, incubator/refrigerator checks, balance checks, pH checks, etc.
  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment, recording calibration/maintenance activities and results per laboratory technical procedures.
  • Enter test results/data into the laboratory database and verify accuracy.
  • Assist in training newly hired laboratory staff.
  • Perform preliminary sample preparation to label, scale, and grind samples for analysis.
  • Manage sample receipt, ensuring integrity with aseptic techniques and recording sample condition (temperature checks, submission form accuracy, test requests).
  • Enter samples into LIMS, label, and prepare for analysis while ensuring proper routing.
  • Prepare media/solutions and reagents per technical procedures.
  • Maintain orderly laboratory environment using Six Sigma tools and dispose of waste properly.
  • Generate, review, approve, and distribute laboratory reports, including email notifications to appropriate distribution lists and/or customers.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with all aspects of the Quality Management System.
What You’ll Bring
  • B.Sc. or technical diploma in relevant sciences (Microbiology preferred; Biology/Food Science acceptable).
  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory or food industry experience.
  • Strong multi‑tasking capability with comfortable routine work.
  • Competent computer skills.
  • Business‑results oriented and works well in a functional team.
